Preparing your primary 5 child for the end of year exam

Dear Parents
The transition from P4 to P5 has always been a challenge for most students. This is because in P4, the basic concepts take up 70% of the exam paper and students only need to handle 8 word problems. But in P5, students are now expected to handle with ease 18 multi-step word problems as most schools will start exposing their P5 students to the full PSLE format. It is a big and demanding leap for most 11 eleven-years-old!
The P5 End of Year exam constitutes 70% of the whole year Math grade, if your child’s school does not have CA2. For those of you whose children have fared well for SA1, congratulations, because you belong to the minority group of P5 parents. Most P5 parents were taken aback at the big dip in their children’s Math grades. However, it’s still not too late to gear your child up for the End of Year Examination, which if done well, can help improve his or her overall grade tremendously.
